Young Musicians at the Festival
The Festival has a long history of supporting talented young musicians from Perth & Kinross,
and the 2014 Festival is no exception. We look forward immensely to experiencing the
following events in St John’s Kirk. Daily Lunchtime School Concerts are staged in the Kirk at
12.30. The schools participating this year are: Glenalmond College (22nd May), Strathallan
School (23rd May), Morrisons Academy (26th May), Community School of Auchterarder (27th
May), Perth High School (28th May), Perth Grammar School (29th May) and Perth Academy
(30th May). These concerts showcase the wonderful musical talent in our schools and are not
to be missed. There is no entrance fee but donations are gratefully
accepted. Perth Youth Orchestra, conducted by Allan Young, is also
an important part of our programme. The Orchestra will play at
the Festival Service in St John’s Kirk at 11.00 on Sunday 25th May.
The Music on a Saturday Morning Concerts are a long-established
highlight of the programme and are performed by young musicians
who have grown up in the area and have decided to make their
careers in music. Once their studies are complete, the Festival
invites them to perform a recital in the Kirk. This year's featured
artist will be the soprano Colleen Nicoll.
