Our Artists of the Year concert returns in 2024, featuring outstanding Scottish musicians who benefited from Cross Trust support early in their careers. 

Three exceptional musicians present a rich programme including classical piano, pop/ jazz vocals and saxophone. 

Scottish pianist Eleanor Pugsley is a rising star whose performances blend classical, jazz and improvisation. During her studies at RCS, Eleanor was a prizewinner of multiple competitions and festivals. She is also a Live Music Now artist and an arts writer for major UK publications.

Tallulah Rose is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Amsterdam, with singing, saxophone, keys, producing, songwriting and dance as her main forms of expression. Tallulah performs with two bands, ROSEYE and SACHEE. Her music explores profound themes from spirituality to nature, and delivers a unique blend of influences.

Scottish singer-songwriter Ailsa Black takes artistic influence from traditional Scottish music and a blend of other styles. She has won several top awards for performance in ‘Burns Song’ and has sung at a number of prestigious events and Music Festivals.

The Cross Trust, founded by Sir Alexander Cross, supports young people in their studies in all arts and science disciplines.

About the Artists

Eleanor Pugsley

Pianist Eleanor Pugsley

Scottish pianist Eleanor Pugsley is a rising star whose performances blend classical, jazz and improvisation. Born on the West Coast of Scotland, she studied at St Mary’s Music School before graduating from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2023 with first class honours. During her studies, Eleanor was a prizewinner of multiple competitions and festivals including the Frederic Lamond competition which showcased her passion to broaden the scope of classical music. Highlights of her previous performances include the Queens Hall, Edinburgh; the French Embassy; and the City Halls, Glasgow. Eleanor encompasses a rare freshness in her music, rooted in her exploration of sound and freedom across genres. In 2023, she became an alumna of Yoyo Ma’s Silk Road Global Musician project.

In addition to her solo performances, Eleanor is a Live Music Now artist. She works with her duet partner French Soprano Constance Grandperrin to perform across Scotland and Europe in concert halls, hospitals, care homes and additional support needs schools. Their performances aim to widen access to live music for those in difficult circumstances.

Eleanor is also a writer for publications such as the Times, the Telegraph, Gramophone Magazine and ArtsJournal. Eleanor studied under Professors Fali Pavri, Graeme McNaught and Jonathan Plowright. Her career is with thanks to the generous support of the Cross Trust and the Rotary Club. 

Tallulah Rose

Singer-songwriter Tallulah Rose


Tallulah Rose is a young multi-disciplinary artist, Edinburgh born and Amsterdam-based, with singing, saxophone, keys, producing, songwriting and dance as her main forms of expression. 

From an artist family of music and dance, she has been performing since conception, with formal musical training at St Mary’s Music School, Edinburgh, and Conservatorium van Amsterdam, with guidance from many other artists and environments. 

Tallulah has played in many bands over the years and is now involved mainly with two bands, ROSEYE and SACHEE, both of whom have albums released this year. The debut album, "Every Move," from her band ROSEYE is scheduled for release in April 2024 on Supersonic Jazz.

Her music explores profound and deep themes such as spirituality, sexuality, nature, capitalism and grief, and demonstrates a unique blend of soul, jazz, gospel, hip-hop, and electronic influences.

Guided by inspiration from luminaries like Hiatus Kaiyote, and Robert Glasper, Noname, Tallulah Rose’s music is an honest and refreshing expression of her creativity. The result is a honest, soulful and touching experience.  

Ailsa Black

Vocalist Ailsa Black

Ailsa Black is a Scottish singer/songwriter from Dumfries & Galloway and is currently in her Final Honours Year studying BA Popular music at Perth UHI. Ailsa's artistic influences include traditional Scottish music and a blend of other styles which are prevalant in her writing. Nature and Scottish culture have served as strong inspirations in her recent writing.

Ailsa has won several awards in 'Burns Song' including 'Overall Best Performance' and 'Best Performance' for her age category, and has sung at a number of prestigious events and Music Festivals.
