Once again the Festival is delighted to welcome English Touring Opera. The company will present three operas in this special Perth 800 year.
Don Pasquale is a comedy with zest, cream, and an Italian accent – think zabaglione! - in a new English language production by William Oldroyd and Agnes Treplin, with Dominic Wheeler conducting.
Keel Watson plays Don Pasquale, a stubborn, competitive, old bachelor – and here a tyrant opera conductor – who wants to find himself a young wife. He seems set to steal from his nephew a beautiful, and apparently submissive bride – but his clumsy wooing turns to woe when she reveals her own mind. Nicholas Sharratt, Mary O’Sullivan and Owen Gilhooley share Donizetti’s finest bel canto song-writing in this wonderful score, much loved but not so often performed.
The finishing time: 10.00pm
